Amarnath Yatra
The Amarnath Yatra is one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It takes place annually in the Amarnath Cave, located in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir, India, at an altitude of about 3,888 meters (12,756 feet) above sea level.
According to Hindu mythology, the Amarnath Cave is where Lord Shiva revealed the secret of immortality (Amar Katha) to Goddess Parvati. To ensure that no one else overheard the secret, he left behind all his companions — including Nandi (the bull), the moon, and even the five elements — before entering the cave.
Inside the cave, a naturally formed ice stalagmite (Shiva Lingam) is believed to symbolize Lord Shiva. The Lingam waxes and wanes with the lunar cycle, which adds to its mystical significance.
